Blewett Pass: Discovery Trail

As if the rain on Tuesday wasn't enough, we encountered light SNOW at our site today. We had to create a makeshift classroom due to the cold - a Northwest Nature Writing first.

This ten-credit learning community will focus on nature writing, taking advantage of the unparalleled grandeur of our area. Advanced Composition and Northwest environments will be fully integrated using the theme of nature writing. Learning communities are based on the idea that knowledge should not be arranged in silos; rather, what you learn in one class should make connections with what you learn in other classes (authentic, worldly learning; consilience).

This is a field-oriented course exploring the natural history of the Pacific Northwest. Diverse communities will be explored on about fifteen class field trips. Your professors will work as a team to facilitate your learning of the natural history and identification of numerous plants and animals, and aid you in incorporating this knowledge into nature essays.
